Project Description

It is proposed to exclude the installation of fire alarm speakers from the in-patient suite out of consideration for the patients well-being. The code requirements pertaining to audibility of fire alarms are to ensure that building occupants can evacuate the premises upon activation of an alarm. However, Building H is of B1 occupancy and patients cannot evacuate without being accompanied by trained personnel. It is paramount that fire alarm signals are audible for the building staff, but it is different for the patients as during the activation of the fire alarm system they cannot leave their suites, thus reducing the practicality of meeting audibility levels in patient suites brought forth by the 2024 OBC.
