Project Description
Alternative Solution at the request of 31 F Development Limited Partnership, Matteo Gilfillan & Associates Inc. (MGA) has prepared this correspondence to summarize the proposed Alternative Solution to address climbability of the residential suite guards for the building located at 32 Olive Avenue in Toronto, Ontario. This correspondence has been prepared with respect to the fire and life safety requirements in Part 3 of the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC, O.Reg. 332/12 as amended to O.Reg. 451/22 - i.e., Code of record) as well as the Alternative Solution Proposal requirements in Division C, Article 2.1.1.1 of the OBC. This correspondence has been prepared as an Alternative Solution Proposal at the request of the Toronto Building Department, to address the design of balcony guard elements located between 140 mm and 900 mm above the protected surface, which the City of Toronto has indicated could be considered as climbable elements, given that the Ontario Building Code does not define climbability in relation to guard design.
