Project Description

It is proposed to use listed fire-wrap product in lieu of installing the standpipe risers in traditional rated gypsum board shaft construction. The product to be used is a firewrap insulation product produced by 3M Company. It is proposed not to install portions of standpipe risers in exit stair shafts or rated vertical service spaces. Instead, it is proposed to protect these portions with a firewrap insulation product that has been evaluated for its fire-resistance. The standpipe system is equipped with standpipe risers in exit stairs and 65 mm diameter hose valves at floor stair landings, and within floor areas as may be required to achieve floor coverage, in accordance with the pre approval conditions for the Alternative Solution submitted to Toronto Building. The portions of standpipe risers not located within an exit stair shaft must be protected by construction providing a minimum 1 h fire-resistance rating in accordance with OBC 3.2.9.2.(9)(b). The insulation product produced by 3M Company has been tested in accordance with ISO 6944. This report also addresses the comparison of ISO 6944 to the CAN/ULC-8101 standard cited in OBC 3.1.7.1.(1)
