Project Description

It is proposed to use listed fire-wrap product in lieu of installing the standpipe risers in traditional rated gypsum board shaft construction. The product to be used is a firewrap insulation product produced by 3M Company. It is proposed not to install portions of standpipe risers in exit stair shafts or rated vertical service spaces. Instead, it is proposed to protect these portions with a firewrap insulation product that has been evaluated for its fire-resistance. The portions of standpipe risers not located within an exit stair shaft must be protected by construction providing a minimum 1 h fire-resistance rating in accordance with OBC 3.2.9.2.(9)(b). The insulation product produced by 3M Company has been tested in accordance with ISO 6944. This report also addresses the comparison of 150 6944 to the CAN/ULC-5101 standard cited in OBC 3.1.7.1.(1).
