Project Description

Alternative Solution with respect to a single means of egress: 1) Building will be sprinklered, though it is not required to be sprinklered. It will be sprinklered in accordance with NFPA 13R, ¿Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies¿,2) Building will be provided with a fire alarm system,3) Monitoring the status of the sprinkler system as part of the required fire alarm system,4) Upgrading the fire-resistance rating of the exit stair separation from 45-minutes to 1 hour,5) Upgrading the fire-protection rating of the suite doors into the exit stair from 20 minutes to 1 hour,6) Suite doors will be upgraded to provide a 45-minute fire protection rating, instead of the permitted 20-minute fire protection rating. The doors will also be gasketed/weather-stripped to mitigate risk of smoke spreading beyond suite of fire origin. NFPA 80 does not require fire rated doors to be weather-stripped and allows for large undercuts at the bottom of doors and thus the suite doors will be enhanced.
