Project Description

Use of a ships ladder to provide access onto an unoccupied mezzanine used for the express purpose of housing mechanical and electrical equipment servicing the building. This platform will only be accessed occasionally to service the equipment.3.3.1.13.(2) permits stairways that are not in conformance with the requirements of 3.3.1.13(1) when such stairways are:1. not exit stairs and,2. intended only for occasional use to service equipment and machinery in service spaces in industrial occupancies.The proposed application meets the above 2 criteria.The performance level of the proposed ships ladder in the above use application achieves the same performance level as acceptable solution 3.3.1.3 Means of Egress (10) which permits a means of egress from a roof for personnel servicing roof top equipment or for a below ground service room that is not normally occupied, to be provided by stairways or fixed ladders. The condition where the ships ladder is proposed is similar to the conditions cited in 3.3.1.3.(10) in that they are both unoccupied service spaces.
