Project Description

The project is located in the City of Toronto, on Dundas Street West. The proposed 29 storey Mixed-Use building withretail on the ground floor and residential on the ground to 29th floor. There is 1 (one) level of parking garage belowgrade. The building will be designed in accordance with the OBC Article 3.2.2.42 (Group C, Any Height, Any Area,Sprinklered).The building will be provided with electrically supervised automatic sprinkler protection throughout as per OBC Article3.2.2.42. Furthermore, a fire alarm system connected to a central station will be provided throughout the building.The alternative measure is based on a combination of provisions of the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC), the 2010National Building Code of Canada (NBC), and NFPA 14 ¿Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems¿ 2013 Edition.No hose cabinets will be provided, and only 65mm dia. Hose connections will be provided in all storeys. Details of theproposed standpipe system design and alternative solution include:¿ standpipe risers and hose connections located in exit stair shafts based on OBC 3.2.9.2.(9) and 6.1.2.2. inNFPA 14¿ conformance with OBC 3.2.9.7.(1) and (2): flow at the two hydraulically most remote hose connections of notless than 1890L/min for 30 minutes at a pressure of not less than 450kPa, and not less than 945L/min fromeach of the two outlets simultaneously, with the water supply supplied through the Fire DepartmentConnection.¿ 33m of hose coverage based on 30m hose and 3m of discharge based on OBC 3.2.9.4.(2) and (5)¿ fire extinguisher provided as required in Part 6 of the 2007 Ontario Fire Code¿ two (2) 30m lengths of 38mm dia. Fire hose with nozzle will be kept at the CACF Room for possiblediscretionary use by fire department personnel.
