alternative solution request related to 23 100697 BLD 01 BA 110 BLOOR ST W The Limiting distance on the east side of the property of 8" prevents the penetration of a fireplace flue exhaust through the wall due to the proximity to the property line. The proposed Alternate Solution is to increase the limiting distance to 1.2m from the property line by constructing a new fire rated shaft wall inboard of the east wall to allow a penetration not exceeding 8% of the surface area of the shaft wall to be penetrated by an unprotected opening. The building is a highrise and is sprinklered. The fire compartment for which the unprotected is contemplated is a Group E Occupancy that permits an 8% of the wall to be penetrated with unprotected openings at 1.2 metre limiting distance. The area of the proposed shaft wall is 6 s.f. of which an 8" diam exhaust flue pipe will penetrate. The area calculation of the vent is 50 sq .inches whereas the exposing face of the shaft wall is 892 sq. inches represents a percentage penentration unprotected opening of 6%.
