Project Description

The proposed Alternative Solution is based on a combination of provisions of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) 2012, the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) 2015, and NFPA 14 Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems 2013 Edition.Fire Hose Cabinets will not be provided. 65mm Hose Valve Connections and Fire Extinguishers in Cabinets will be provided.Details of the proposed standpipe system design and alternative solution include:Standpipe risers and hose connections are to be located in exit stair shafts and in vertical service spaces within the floor areas based on OBC 3.2.9.2.(9) and NFPA 14 (2013) 6.1.2.2;Hose Valve Connections will be located to provide coverage of all floor areas using 33m of hose coverage based on 30m hose and 3m of hose stream, informed by OBC 3.2.9.4. (2) and (5)(a).Conformance with OBC 3.2.9.2.(4) and 3.2.9.7 (1) and (2): flow, at the two hydraulically most remote hose connections, of not less than 1890 L/min; for not less than 30 min; at a pressure of not less than 450kPa and; not less than 945L/min from each of the two outlets simultaneously, with the water supply supplied through the fire department connection;fire extinguishers to be provided as per Part 6 of the 2007 Ontario Fire Code as amended.two (2) 30m lengths of 38mm dia. fire hose with 65mm to 38mm adaptor and nozzle will be kept at adesignated location (recommend CACF Room) for discretionary use by fire department personnel.
