Project Description

The proposed Alternative Solution contains a rationale to address a deviation from Division B - Part 3 of the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC, O.Reg. 332/12 as amended to 332/12) (Code of Record) with respect to the separation of buildings on the P1 Level parking garage within the Kip Phase I and Phase II buildings, located at 5365 Dundas Street West in Toronto, Ontario. This Alternative Solution will address the approach to separate the P1 Level parking floor areas between Phase I and Phase II of the complex. In lieu of providing a Measure N vestibule in the parking level, it is proposed to provide a 1.5 h rated fire shutter at the location of the opening between the two floor areas. In addition to this, appropriate use of smoke venting and smoke control systems will be utilized to achieve an alternative and equal performance level as the performance level that would be achieved by providing a Measure N vestibule between the buildings. The proposed Alternative Solution is based on the Objectives and Functional Statements attributed to the applicable Acceptable Solutions of the objective based 2012 Ontario Building Code.
