Project Description

Throughout the project, several existing floor and nonloadbearing wall assemblies have been found to not meet the required fire-resistance rating when calculated using MMAH Supplementary Standard SB-2. Each of these conditions was previously assessed to determine the required additional fire protection measures to achieve the required fire-resistance rating of the assembly or structural element, which typically consisted of adding SFRM to the element. Previously submitted Alternative Solutions (21 121575 ALT 00, Approved on Mar 31, 2021, and 21 196958 ALT 00, Approved on Aug 13 2021) included a specific SFRM product which met all project requirements at the time. This is A/D Fire Type 5GP. This Alternative Solution is to assess the adequacy of three other SFRM products to replace A/D Fire Type 5GP based on their availability and construction preferences. These alternative SFRM products are A/D Fire Type 7HD, GCP MK-6, and GCP Z-146. To determine if these provide the same level of performance in the previously approved Alternative Solutions as A/D Fire Type 5GP, a range of UL Designs that include all four SFRM products were reviewed, and it was found that in all instances the alternative SFRMs require the same or lesser thickness than A/D Fire Type 5GP. It is therefore concluded that these products are suitable alternatives, however they will require the same adhesion and bond testing to be performed and reviewed.
