Project Description
The Ontario Line is a 15.6-kilometre stand-alone rapid transit ine that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition/Ontario Place. Fifteen stations are proposed, with numerous connections to the broader transit network, including GO Transit rai services, the Toronto Transit Commission's subway Lines 1 and 2, the future Line 5 (Eglinton Crosstown LRT), as well as numerous bus and streetcar routes. The Ontario Line - Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (Project) is part of the Ontario line.Rapid transit stations are governed by OBC Division B, Section 3.13., that has specific provisions for stations. Service rooms in the station are classified as being Group F, Division 3, Low Hazard Industrial Occupancy. The service rooms are required to comply with the egress reqirements under Division B, Part 3 of the OBC. For the purpose of application of the egress requirements to back of house service rooms, the provisions of Article 3.3.1.5. and Article 3.4.2.5. are applied. The proposed design of the back of house service rooms at the station does not comply with the acceptable solutions in OBC.When the proposed design differs from the acceptable solutions of the OBC, compliance is permitted to be achieved by using alternative solutions that will reach the level of performance required by the applicable acceptable solutions, as permitted by OBC division A, Clause 1.2.1.1.(1)(b). OBC provides specific Objective and Functional statements relative to complying with the Sentence 3.13.5.10.(2) of the Code.An alternative solution approach to building code compliance is proposed relative to the 2012 Ontario Building Code for the egress requirements in the rapid transit station.
