Project Description

There are dead-end sections in the corridor serving residential suites that do not comply with the prescriptive requirements OFC retrofit Sentence 9.6.3.1.(2), and exceeds the maximum permitted limit. The proposed alternative solution consists of upgrading existing fire alarm system for early warning and dection. The proposed alternative solution includes the following compensating measures: 1) Provide smoke detection in the corridor serving residential suites throughout the building; the detector coverage area is proposed to be 60% of that specified in CAN/ULC-S524 for faster system response time. 2) Provide 1 combination rate-of-rise and fixed temperature heat detector inside each of the affected suites; the heat detector is to be located in the foyer near the suite door. 3) Provide 1 fire alarm signalling device inside each of the affected suites. 4) Replace existing suite door of the affected suites with 3/4-hour fire protection rated ULC listed door assemblies complete with self-closing and self-latching devices, and meeting the temperature rise criteria on the non-fire (corridor) side of the door.
